Dyson DC65 vs Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal / Animal + Allergy, what’s the difference?

image from manufacturer

Dyson released a new upright vacuum series Dyson Cinetic Big Ball in January 2015. On the US market, there are 2 models – the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal which is priced at $599.99 on dyson.com and Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal + Allergy which is sold for $699 due to the extra 4 tools it comes with. There is no mechanical difference between these 2 machines, only difference, if there is any, is the color scheme. The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball is exclusive to QVC until 3/1/2015, so before that day, you can only buy the Cinetic Big Ball from QVC or directly from Dyson.
By the way, I just visited the product page on QVC and find that the Big Ball Cinetic Animal sold at $599.94, but includes more attachments than Dyson official site offers. It not only has the tangle-free turbine tool, combination tool, stair tool, but also includes a multi-angle brush, reach-under tool, flat-out tool, and articulating tool. So you get 4 extra tools with the same cost level.

There are 2 major difference between Dyson Cinetic Big Ball and DC65 though they have similar appearance.

The first one is the Cyclone technology they employ.
The DC65 uses Radial Root Cyclone technology whereas the Cinetic Big Ball uses the new Dyson Cinetic science.
The new cyclone system adds 35 Dyson Cinetic tips that oscillate at high speed to stop dust building up and blocking the airflow. And the system creates centrifugal forces of up to 313,000G flinging particles from the air and into the dust bin.

The second one is the Filtration.
The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball has no pre motor filter, it has only a post motor filter that cannot be accessed and requires no cleaning. So there are no filters to wash.
Whereas the DC65 has both pre motor and post motor that require you to wash at least every 3 months.

Other differences are as follows.

Suction Power
The DC65 has a suction power of 245 airwatts versus 180 airwatts on the Cinetic Big Ball.

Weight
The DC65 is over 2 lbs lighter, it weighs 17.35 lbs whereas the Cinetic Big Ball weighs 19.8 lbs.

Bin Capacity
The bin volume on the DC65 is 0.55 gallons versus 0.57 gallons on the Cinetic Big Ball.

Dimensions
DC65: 42.4″ x 13.4″ x 15.4″
Cinetic Big Ball: 43.3″ x 13.4″ x 17.2″

Some Similarities.
Motorized brush roller with brush On/Off control;
Self adjusting cleaner head with NO manual carpet pile adjustment;
35 feet cord length;
Ball Technology;
Clear bin, hygienic bottom empty.
Back by 5 year limited warranty.

If you want a vacuum cleaner that does not require you to wash the filter, then buy the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball. Otherwise, go for the DC65.

Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal vs Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal + Allergy what’s the difference?

The difference between Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal and Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal + Allergy are slight.
The only difference on the main vacuum is that they have different color on the cyclone part. The Animal is purple whereas the Animal + Allergy is like gray.
There is also $100 price difference. The Animal + Allergy is priced at $699.99 whereas the Animal is priced at $599.99 on Dyson.com.
The price difference implies the included tools are different.
The Animal comes with a Combination tool, Stair tool, and Tangle-free Turbine tool for removing hair from carpets and upholstery.
Whereas the Animal + Allergy has all the tools the Animal includes, and also comes with a Reach Under Tool for cleaning hard to reach areas, a Multi-Angle Brush that allows you to twist to cleaning spots like door frames and lampshades, a Mattress Tool to clean mattresses and upholstery, a Carbon Fiber Soft Dusting Brush that can clean hard surfaces and crevices, and Accessory Tool Bag to store all of the cleaning tools.

Both of these 2 Dyson Cinetic Big Ball upright vacuum cleaners employ the Dyson’s Cinetic science cyclone technology, they have no pre motor filter, and do not require you to wash any filters.
They can generate 180 air watts suction power, feature Ball technology, self adjusting cleaner head, motorized brush roller that can be turned On/Off, 0.57 gallons dust bin, 35 feet power cord, and a Quick-draw Telescope Reach wand.
Both of them weighs approximately 20 pounds and carry 5 year limited warranty on parts and labor.

Dyson DC65 vs DC17 what’s the difference?

Here we will discuss the difference between Dyson DC65 and DC17.

The Dyson DC17 is an upright vacuum released in 2006 in the US whereas the DC65 is a newer version launched in early 2014.

Cyclone technology
The DC17 features Level 3 Root Cyclone that incorporates 11 cyclones to filter dust particles out of the airstream. Whereas the DC65 features Radial Root Cyclone technology that refines the cyclone inlets and vortex fingers to provide greater airflow that helps remove more dirt, dust and allergens.

Movement Type
The movement types they employ is one of the key difference between them.
If you owned a DC17, you must know that it uses traditional fixed wheels. The DC65 uses totally different movement technology. It use a Dyson Ball instead of wheels.
With the Ball, you can steer the DC65 by twisting the handle.
Does the ball better than fixed wheels?
This is about personal preference. Some like the fixed wheels whereas others like the Ball. By the way, if you never use a Dyson Ball vacuum before, it does takes a little time to get used to it.

Cleaner Head
The DC65 has redesigned brushbar that performs better for picking up dirt from carpets.

Suction Power
The DC65 has greater suction power. Works better on both carpet and hard floors.

Bin Capacity
The DC17 dust cup holds more.

Wand Assembly
The DC17 wand handle consists of the main vacuum handle and steel wand whereas the DC65 wand assembly does not consists the handle.
So, while using the DC65 wand with hose, it may be awkward because there is no handle to hold.
And the wand on DC65 is plastic instead of steel on the DC17.

Weight
The DC65 is over 3 pounds lighter than the DC17.
