Compare Bissell Crosswave Cordless Models (updated in Nov 2023)

Bissell produces battery powered Crosswave wet dry vacuums as well as corded Crosswave models.

images from Bissell infomercials

Just like the corded series, there are also several cordless models available. Below we will discuss the main difference between these Bissell Crosswave Cordless, Cordless Max, Cordless Max Deluxe, X7 Cordless models.

    There are:

  • Bissell Crosswave Cordless 2551
  • Bissell Crosswave Cordless Max 2554, 2554A, 2590(exclusive to Walmart), 2596(exclusive to Bissell)
  • Bissell Crosswave Cordless Max Deluxe 2593
  • Bissell CrossWave X7 Cordless Pet Pro 3011, 3279
  • BISSELL Crosswave HF3 Cordless 3649, 3649A, 3654

The Crosswave Cordless Max models (2554,2554A,2590,2596) and Deluxe (2593) are the same machine except for what are included and the color. The 2596 is exclusive to Bissell, it offers some limited time free bonus and one extra year warranty.

The Crosswave Cordless(2551) is a bit different from the Max models. Besides some cosmetic differences, such as the tanks, upper handle and carry handle, there are some other differences that might affect your buying decisions.

The Bissell CrossWave X7 Cordless is the newly added series of the Crosswave cordless series.
When compared to the Max models, the main difference is that it adds the TURBO PET™ Mode to boost cleaning performance, especially for tackling pet mess and stuck-on messes; another new feature is the LED headlight. The X7 adds the LED headlights on the nozzle to illuminate dark spots and find hidden debris.
The CrossWave X7 is a bit lighter than the Max.

The HF3 has some big changes, it does not have a solution spray trigger on the handle like the previous models. Instead, it automatically dispenses cleaning solution onto the floor during use. Meanwhile, it does not have an Area Rug Mode and a Hard Floor Mode, but features a Water Spray Rate Selection Button that allows you to switch between High and Low water flow.
It has No Turbo Pet mode, no LED headlights, no WiFi support.

  • Digital Display
The Max, X7, HF3 models have some lighted icons that make cleaning more intuitive:
modes indicator to tell you which mode you select – Hard Floor or Area Rug (Max and X7) or TURBO PET™ Mode (X7 models), High or Low Water Spray Rate (HF3).
dirty water tank full indicator will blink orange or flash red when tank is full.
wifi connection status icon (Max and certain X7 models).

The X7 and HF3 models have some more indicators:
X7 has Error Indicator, Fan Error Indicator, and Clean Out Cycle Indicator. HF3 has Error Indicator, and Brush Roll Obstruction indicator.

The Crosswave cordless does not have these indicators.

  • WIFI supported
The Crosswave cordless does not support wifi.

The Max supports wifi connection, you will need to use your smart phone to install the Bissell Connect App to connect the machine, and it will provide helpful alerts, maintenance tracking and usage tips. However, you can use the vacuum without the App.

Some CrossWave X7 models, such as CrossWave X7 Cordless Pet Pro 3011, does not support WiFi whereas some models, such as CrossWave X7 Cordless Pet Pro 3279, have WiFi built in.
In fact, the WiFi Connectivity is not an important feature when using these wet dry vacuum.

  • Self Cleaning
All feature Clean Out Cycle to flush clean water through the machine for quick and simple clean out. However, there is difference between this process. The Max, X7, HF3 models use solution from the clean water tank whereas the Crosswave cordless models use water from the docking tray.
  • Control Buttons
The Max, X7, HF3 have a Power button to turn on/off the vacuum and a Mode button to switch between modes.
The Crosswave cordless has a HARD FLOOR button and a RUG button, you press one of them to turn on the vacuum, press the button again will turn it off.

  • Edge Cleaning
According to Bissell, when compared to the Crosswave cordless, the Max has improved edge cleaning to pick up dust, pet hair, debris that gathers along baseboards and in corners.
  • Cleaning Path Width
The Max,X7 cleaning path width is approximately 10.5-inch versus 12-inch on the Crosswave cordless.
  • Roller
The Max, X7, HF3 have a thicker roller than the Crosswave cordless.

    Some questions and answers:

  • What do these machines do?
They are wet dry vacuums, they vacuum and wash the floor at the same time. They can handle sealed hard floors, such as sealed wood, laminate and tile floors, and low pile area rugs. But they are not meant to be used as a dry vacuum, they will vacuum and freshen area rugs, but will not deep clean rugs like a carpet cleaner.
  • Can you control when to dispense solution?
Except the HF3 which automatically spray solution, the other models have a spray trigger located on the handle.
  • Can the Crosswave Cordless/Max/X7 Cordless Pet Pro/HF3 be used to clean carpet?
They are not designed for carpet cleaning.
  • Do they steam floors?
    No, they are not steamer.
  • Can you use these Crosswave cordless machines without water?
They are not intended for dry vacuuming only, will not work as well as a regular dry vacuum cleaner does.
  • Is it OK to use the Crosswave without formula?
Yes, you can use only water.
  • Can you have one battery in use and one battery charging?
No. These vacuums have built-in battery pack which is not detachable by end users.
  • How long does it take to charge the battery?
    Approximately 4 hours.
  • How long does it run?
The HF3 runs up to 25 minutes, the others run up to 30 minutes per charge.
  • Is the charger input AC 100 to 240v?
    No.
  • Do you have to do cleanup after each use?
Yes. Though it has the self cleaning function, it cleans the brush and suction path, you still have to clean the dirty water tank, stainer, filter, screen, tray, etc.
  • What’s the tank capacity?
The HF3 clean water tank capacity is 520ml and dirty water tank capacity is 420ml. For the other models, the clean water tank holds up to 828ml and the dirty water tank holds up to 550ml.
  • Do the Crosswave have corded models?
    Yes.
  • Can the brush roll be removed for clean up?
    Yes.

Looking for the best shop vac for the money? Try these.

When buying a wet dry vac, you are choosing a versatile cleaning machine for a wider range of applications than a general home vacuum.

Unlike a standard vacuum we use at home which can only pick up dry materials, a wet dry vacuum, some people call it shop vac, has the ability to tackle dry as well as wet messes.
Shop vacs commonly are more sturdier, heavy duty, they generate powerful suction, some can pick up shark items that might damage a standard vacuum, such as a nail. And they feature larger capacity. You can easily find 6,8,10,12,16 gallon shop vac on the market, even vacuums with capacity of over 20 gallons. But a standard dry vacuum usually holds less than 1 gallon.

There are different types of wet dry vacuum cleaners, some are corded, some are cordless; some are handheld, some are upright, some can be wall mounted; some are for home use while some are commercial, industrial shop vacs for plumbers and workers;some are for woodworking, dust collection, and some are good for water removal.
And there are also many brands to choose from. For people who have no personal preference, you can have a look at the products from DeWalt,Stanley,Craftsman,Shop-Vac,Ridgid,Milwaukee,Festool,Vacmaster,etc., these are the top rated brands.

If you don’t have the time to do the research, below are some of the best selling items you can take into consideration. They are relatively good quality vacs on the market.
