Here are a few differences between Dyson DC50 and DC33:

1, They come in different sizes.
The DC33 is full size while the DC50 is compact, this causes some differences on the specs.
The DC33 has more powerful suction, wider cleaner head, longer power cord, much larger dirt bin, longer hose than the DC50. Thus, the DC33 is better for large house cleaning while DC50 is for small home.

2, Technologies

The DC24 was the predecessor of the DC50, both of them are compact size upright.

They looks similar, but the DC50 has some improvement.

New Cleaner Head

New Ball Technology
The DC50 features new Dyson ball technology, it houses more chief components of the vacuum inside the ball to reduce clutter and better steering.

These 2 are compact and light weight, but with tiny bin, short cable, and short hose. Only for a small condo or apartment.

These 2 are different types of vacuum cleaners. Dyson DC50 is a corded compact size upright while the DC59 is a cordless stick/hand vacuum.
Here are some points you should consider before buying:
1, Do you want a corded or battery driven vacuum?
Dyson DC50 is corded, DC59 is battery powered.

2, About the weight. Light or even lighter?
Dyson DC50 is a light upright while the DC59 is a 7 pounds lighter stick/hand vacuum.

3, Do you need to clean under low furniture?
